I have always been passionate about helping others understand who they are and why they respond and behave in the way they do. This is what led me to complete my Bachelor’s Degree followed by my Master’s Degree in Counselling Psychology. I wanted to help individuals process their difficulties while simultaneously learning to develop an understanding of themselves that would foster self-compassion and personal growth.
In my experience of helping children, adolescents and adults navigate their experience with anxiety, depression, PTSD and other traumas, I have learned that often the biggest obstacles are self-doubt and fear. For many, the thought of change and trusting another person when they’ve already experienced so much hurt is daunting. This is why I often applaud those who recognize that they no longer deserve to feel alone and reach out for help.
My approach to counselling is client centered; providing each person with a tailored and individual approach in a warm, respectful and safe environment. I not only want to provide resources and tools that can assist in improving the difficulty currently being experienced but also get to the root of the problem so that the solution can be all encompassing. I use a combination of modalities which include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Dialectal Behavioural Therapy as well as Mindfulness.
I look forward to helping you on this journey.
If you’re here its because you’re likely considering getting some support from a psychotherapist which is a step that takes a lot of courage. Carolynn Michlowski, B.A., M.A., RP (Qualifying) is a Registered Psychotherapist. Carolynn has recently begun providing psychotherapy services in the Sudbury area and brings with her a history of work in domestic violence support and addiction services.
Carolynn believes psychotherapy should be individually tailored to each person who walks through the door. Whether you’ve been in a constant day to day struggle to get things done, dreading making a change, or simply looking to understand yourself better, Carolynn utilizes primarily an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) approach to support you in achieving a life that feels more meaningful, with an added awareness regarding the impacts of trauma.
Therapy should focus on collaboration between you the individual and your therapist. If this has not happened for you in the past, you may be more hesitant to reach out for help again. Assessing what hasn’t worked in the past can be helpful in determining the best moves forward. Call and book an initial consultation today to have Carolynn support you in moving forward with your life.
I appreciate you,
My name is Valerie Martin, B.A., M.A., RP (Qualifying), and I strongly
believe that counselling is a great option for anyone looking to
enhance their wellbeing. I always knew that I wanted to work with
people to help them better understand their emotions and help them
develop adaptive coping strategies. This is what led me to purse a
career as a psychotherapist.
I began my studies by obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Sociology
and Psychology from Laurentian University, followed by a Master’s
Degree in Counselling Psychology from Yorkville University.
I am so excited to provide psychotherapy services in the Sudbury
area. I approach therapy from a client centred approach, as I believe
we all have the ability to grow and better understand who we are at
the core. I use a combination of modalities which include Cognitive
Behavioural Therapy, Emotion-Focused Therapy and Mindfulness. I
believe that psychotherapy is something very personal and will
ensure that the journey is a tailored experience. I look forward to
providing a safe and comfortable space for you to openly discuss
your thoughts and emotions.
I can’t wait to connect with you,
