FAQs

How do I know if Psychotherapy or Counselling is for me?

Reaching out or admitting that we need help can be difficult. However, all of us can benefit from help in some form from time to time. Psychotherapy and counselling services are appropriate for anyone who wishes to gain more insight into themselves. Why do I feel the way they I do? Why do I act the way that I do? What can I do to implement change? Whether these are questions you are asking due to your struggle with depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, or just part of your daily thoughts, counselling can help you find the answer.

How can I pay for therapy?

At this time, psychotherapy services are not covered through OHIP. However, many insurance benefit coverages will cover the cost. Clients are required to pay for the service upfront, following each session and then submit the receipt to their insurance company for reimbursement. You may also be covered through your employee assistant programs (EAP) if this applies. In addition, I provide a sliding scale rate to assist those who may not have the means to afford psychotherapy services.

What can I expect during the first session?

During the initial session, the reason for your visit will be discussed as well as what your goals for therapy. You will be assisted with the nerves that you may be arriving with and provided with warmth and guidance. Frequency of your sessions will also be discussed to provide you with the framework of your therapy journey. This session is important as it establishes the beginning of what will become the therapeutic relationship. Any questions you may have will also be answered during this session.

How often do I need to attend therapy? How many sessions will I need?

Each therapy plan is tailored to the individual and the difficulty they are being faced with. This means that there is no predetermined number of sessions. During your initial therapy session, we will discuss what will best suit you with regards to the frequency of your sessions. Once you begin to make progress, typically the frequency of your visits will reduce.
